Goodreads Giveaways – How To

How they work and how I use them to score free books.

What do all these books have in common? I got them for free. One of my secrets for getting free books is through Goodreads giveaways.

Anybody can enter – you don’t have to be a bookstagrammer. Basically it’s a way for publishers to get books into readers hands to help drive hype and get reviews.
As much as I dislike some aspects of Goodreads, this is one thing I really do like about it.

BTW – This is not sponsored or affiliated with Goodreads in any way. I just wanted to share this because you might be missing out. You can follow me on Goodreads here.

A few tips and things to know:

  • It works much better on a browser than on the app. Go to Browse > Giveaways.
  • Your odds depend on how many people enter. Popular books are going to be tough to get, but you can keep trying. Often the publisher conducts multiple giveaways, so if you don’t win the first one you enter, there may be another opportunity.
  • When you enter a giveaway, the book is automatically added to your To-Read shelf. You can manually remove it later.
  • Some books are ebooks, others are physical copies. If you want to be eligible for a print book, you need to be willing to provide your address.
  • Every time you enter a giveaway, it shows up in your Goodreads feed for all your followers to see. I went into settings and turned this off because I didn’t want to be spamming people. You may want to do the same.

I hope this is helpful! Happy reading!
