A new series where I pair my favorite books with music. Whenever I find the perfect song to pair with a novel, I get so excited. Here a few highlights throughout the years.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
While I was devouring the entire Court of Thorns and Roses series via audiobook, (specifically book 2) my kids were obsessed with Blinding Lights by the Weeknd. (Usually the Kids Bop Version!) So I’d hear that song over and over while experiencing the longest slow burn of slow burns.
The song does fit though, in a way, especially thinking of Velaris, the magical city in the Night Court.
The Gilded Cage by Lynette Noni
Yes, I know, another second book in a fantasy series. They’re the ones with all the emotional distress!
“Wicked Game” by Jessie Villa captures the longing, regret and inner turmoil that our main character, Kiva, experiences. She’s falling in love with the perfect guy, who helped her survive prison. But their families are enemies and she knows that she might be destroying him and everything he loves.

Float Plan by Trish Doller
Anna’s fiancé dies by suicide and she decides to take the sailing trip they’d always planned together. She meets another amazing man along the way, who helps her sail around the Caribbean.
“Hands on Me” by Vanessa Carlton has allusions to sailing and travelling, and the rush of new love. But there’s an undercurrent of longing and sadness.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan
So the song is not exactly Kid Friendly, but it’s about going on a journey to the unknown and dealing with “forces that our eyes can’t see.” really fits with the vibe.
As I read this with my son for the first time, this song kept coming into my mind.
